Captains' Corner

Hello everyone!

In a time of global stress, I would like to pay my deepest condolences to the current events in Ukraine, Queensland, NSW, Japan and other nations and locations which are suffering from struggles.  May we extend a humanitarian hand and offer any assistance we can provide from across the seas or within our borders.

To start; it has been an honour and a pleasure to serve you all over the last few weeks. Interacting with people of many different cultures, backgrounds and walks of life has been an incredibly eye-opening and humbling experience.

The year has kicked off with many great experiences, as our new Year 7s had the opportunity to develop themselves at their camp - I hope they have found some new friends and have strengthened bonds with pre-existing ones.  But, if that is not the case, do not worry.  I am sure in time, you will find that special connection that is just waiting to be found.  Always be on the lookout for new engagements and fun activities!

Likewise, the Year 12 Retreat had us balling our eyes out!  It was so profound to see people who had engraved disputes which had run deep for years find reconciliation in one another and put the past behind them.

The retreat provided us with a much-needed break from daily life and allowed us to slow the cogs of our minds to properly inspect our internal mechanisms.

Our connection to our faith was expanded and this new link of solidarity between us will stand as a monument of our growth.

On a wider scale, it was amazing to see everyone give the Aquatics Carnival their best participation. The sense of community and enthusiasm has been the best it has been in years and it filled me with joy to see so many people giving it their all and yielding the most amount of fun possible from the event.  As a person who would more often sink rather than float, I applaud those who may not be the best swimmers for trying.  Perseverance is a key skill in life and it was wonderful to see so many people possess it.

Looking forward to the future, we have a day that celebrates this very essence of community and connection: Harmony Day.  A day that neglects predetermined perceptions, in favour of an embracing what makes us unique.  Our culture, our heritage, and our journeys are to be celebrated as one!

Please join us in embracing what makes us a community, by displaying what makes us… us!

As we continue our year, please remember to always be kind to yourself.  There’s always help, just a few words away.

As always, I once more implore you to seize the day!

Wow, well this year has definitely started off with a bang !!

We’ve celebrated our annual Aquatics Carnival with Columba taking the win.  Our Year 7s have been able to get to know one another and make new friends through their Year 7 Camp and the Year 12s had an amazing experience in the strengthening and rekindling of bonds with each other at their Retreat.

These last seven weeks have been quite amazing for us, not just in the sense of some lively house competition but in some time spent with friends and teachers after a rather challenging and different experience of COVID and online learning for these last two years.

It is incredible to see everyone around school, a bright environment with both students and teachers smiling with the thought of the start to a normal and fun-filled year ahead.  We hope to make this year one to remember.

Harmony Day is just around the corner next Thursday, so I hope to see each and everyone of you dressed up in cultural wear or orange. Our school is all about diversity and individuality, so come along and join in as we strive for each of you to express yourselves and allow your fellow peers to see a part of what makes all of you, you.
