PST Interviews April 7 and 8

As we work towards the end of Term 1, teachers are currently preparing Interim Reports, and these will be provided to families prior to our parent, student and teacher interviews that are to be held in the last week of term. These reports provide an indication of how well a student has settled into learning at the College.  With the interviews, we have provided the two options: Thursday afternoon 7 April will be held onsite at the College and Friday 8 April will be daytime interviews held remotely, and connection is made to families via the student Teams account. We look forward to providing this further feedback to students and families in coming weeks.

VCE Options – What in an Unscored VCE?

As a student progresses through Year 12, there options for future pathways become clearer.  Some students do make the decision to take up the option of an unscored pathway – but what does this mean, and how does this impact on a student?

Most students who complete a VCE do so to gain an ATAR score.  This score provides a rank, and this rank is used by tertiary providers to assign students to courses.  To find more information about the ATAR process, I recommend that parents focus on the VTAC website https://www.vtac.edu.au/.  This site provides all relevant information about how the ATAR works for tertiary entry.

Some students, however, who are not suited to a VCAL pathway, make the choice to undertake VCE but they do not wish to enter university immediately on completing their VCE.  These students have the option to complete an unscored program.  This study results in students being able to enter a TAFE course, but not an immediate University entry.  Once a student has completed a TAFE course, many TAFE institutions have an arrangement with a university for entry with credit to a degree.

Any student wanting to explore an unscored pathway needs to make this decision by the end of Term 1.  Knowing the pathway that you are going to undertake when you leave secondary is crucial.

An unscored pathway is a legitimate option for students who are seeking a direct pathway to TAFE.  Any student or family member seeking more information should make contact with our VCE and VCAL Programs Leader, Ms Frankie Flanagan, who can support students through the decision-making process.
