Mad Hatter's Tea Party

You’re all entirely bonkers. But I will tell you a secret. All the best people are.”- The Mad Hatter

What an amazing afternoon was had last Friday at the Junior School Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. The weather gods smiled down kindly on us. Whilst enjoying a scrumptious afternoon tea on the lovely library lawn, we were entertained with music from our Year Four and Year Five musicians. Our guest speaker for the event was Mr. Neil MacLean, who told the gathered students, teachers and parents/grandparents a little about the history of Myrniong and the original ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ organised by the then Head of Junior School, Mrs. Ann Scott. We heard a reading of Lewis Carroll’s poem ‘The Jabberwocky’ by our Year Six students and School Captain Amelie Shrive shared with us some details from a time capsule that was buried in the Junior School grounds in the early 2000s. The day culminated in some ‘oldy worldy’ games on the oval and a Myrniong ‘hat toss’.  Special thanks to Mrs. Bernadette Milich for her vision and planning of the event. Her extended family produced much of the equipment we used for the oval games. Our Junior School parent body did an amazing job of preparing food, decorating tables, serving students and cleaning up at the end of the day. It was a genuinely marvellous event, and it underlined the vibrant, passionate and hard-working learning community that is the Junior School.  Well done everyone.

Parent Workshop - College Vision - The Next Decade

Last Thursday evening a ‘College Vision - The Next Decade’ workshop was held for interested Junior and Senior School parents. Dr. Andrew Hirst shared with the group a draft vision statement and enlisted the thoughts, questions, and ideas via small group discussions and shared feedback sessions. It was a very worthwhile evening. Many thanks to the Junior School parents who attended. More information from this evening will be shared over the coming weeks.

Students can catch the bus up from the Junior School.  All participants must wear shinpads and mouthguards.

*We are still missing a number of yellow and green playing tops from last year’s ‘Tassie Devils’ Division 4 team. This was a brand-new team set of tops and I would appreciate them being returned as a soon as possible.

House Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all of our incredible Junior School students who participated in the annual Junior School House Athletics Carnival last Tuesday, 8 March.  I was again most humbled to watch so many children willingly step out of their comfort zone to participate in events that challenged them both physically and mentally throughout the day.  The support and encouragement children gave to each other, the ‘have-a-go’ attitude and pure hard work that was demonstrated throughout the whole day was absolutely magnificent to experience.

Thank you to the parents who so willingly donated their time to assist on a stopwatch, track placings and at field events. We could not run the day without so many extra hands chipping in to help along the way.  Thank you also to Mrs Kate Pye and her wonderful support crew for running a delicious sausage sizzle, drinks and cake stall – I know this was greatly appreciated by many hungry athletes and their families!

Congratulations to members of Berry/Young House who were eventual overall House Champions and to the following children who performed exceptionally well to achieve their Age-Group Champion medallions.

9yo: Angus Reid and Matilda Mercer

10yo: Jack Novikov and Poppy Shepherd

11yo: Charlie Hindhaugh and joint winners Yolanda O’Sullivan and Elsie Brown

12/13yo: Lachlan Reid and Amelie Shrive

Today, Thursday 17 March, a team of 44 students will compete in the HDSA Athletics Carnival and we wish them all the very best for a successful and positive day on both track and in the field.
