Principal's Report

Welcome

All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Dedication to excellence in education has characterised Term 1 at Dromana College. Our students’ collective focus on their learning and positive energy is to be congratulated. I am always proud and delighted of the young people that make up our amazing learning community.

Our skilled and devoted staff have again ensured that all students are starting their school year supported at their individual point of need. The continued investment in our additional learning support programs has meant that every student will have the tools and strategies they need to thrive in their learning in 2022.

Additionally, to our families, I welcome and value your contributions, feedback and support. We can only achieve the best for our students if we work together and form a strong school and family partnership. I look forward to working with you and your children.

New Staff

Each year brings positive change. This includes a few additions to our staff. We are delighted to welcome 22 new members to our teaching and education support teams. One of the most enjoyable parts of my day is walking around the school and visiting classrooms and it has been wonderful to see our new staff so settled and already making a positive difference to the outcomes of their students.

Dromana College 2022 Captains

College Captain is a prestigious position within our school community. Congratulations go to Francesca Montgomery, Kyneisha Czowhan, Krystabel Forward and Melody Johnson for their appointments in 2022. Our captains represent the student voice of Dromana College, actively promote the school values at all times and provide leadership to the entire student body. Congratulations again to these outstanding young women, I am confident they will individually and collectively have a positive influence on our school community.

Swimming Sports and Athletics Carnivals

The annual whole school swimming and athletics carnivals were held this term and I would like to pass my thanks and congratulations on to Mr Ryan Volo for his outstanding organisation of these events. Events such as these are invaluable to the enhancement of school spirit and it was fantastic to see such high-level participation from students giving their personal best. The positive atmosphere on both days was motivating for all in attendance.

Open Night

The Dromana College Open Night for prospective Grade 6 families will be held on Wednesday 4th May commencing at 6:00pm in the Basketball Stadium. The night is being organised by our Assistant Principal and Transitions Coordinator, Mrs Brooke Mollenkopf, with all staff and some of our student representatives also involved. Our aim for Open Night is to give you, as parents and guardians, an opportunity to ask questions and explore the opportunities that we can provide your child as they embark on their secondary education journey. I always look forward to this evening as we come together to recognise and celebrate the achievements, programs, opportunities and people that make Dromana College great.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Monday 4th April. This will be a Student Free Day; therefore, no formal classes will be running but we strongly encourage all students to attend interviews with their families. The purpose of these interviews is to support all students, parents/guardians and teachers to work collaboratively to discuss growth and learning goals for Term 2.

Facilities Update

If you have been past the Harrisons Road entrance of the school this term, you may have noticed some of our most recent construction projects. The oval seating has been replaced and developed now holding a capacity to seat the whole school for outdoor assemblies and presentations. Additionally, the re-development of our M Block has commenced. Portables have already been repositioned with plans for the roof and gallery to be completed by the end of 2022. This space will be a replicate of the Year 9 O Block and become an exciting year level learning space for 2023.

Thank you to all members of our school community. Your commitment to ensuring that Dromana College remains a celebrated and successful school is inspiring. It remains an honour and privilege to serve as your Principal.  Now that restrictions have eased, please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all students.
