Years 5/6

The 5/6 students hope that everyone had a lovely long weekend and enjoyed a shorter week at school.

The students have had a busy week writing their narratives, learning about circle time, looking at 3D shapes, rehearsing their Reader's Theatre scripts and completing some art pieces for the Redgum Festival.

Have you heard...?

If you have a student at CPS you might of heard about our 5/6 class Spin It To Win It. After looking at chance and probability in Maths earlier in the term we developed this class rewards system. Each week students in 5/6 have opportunities to earn raffle tickets for a prize at the end of the week. Students can earn a raffle ticket for many reasons including:

  • Showing the school weekly blitz (currently manners)
  • Reading recorded in diaries each day
  • Organised bookwork
  • A tidy and neat locker tub
  • Doing their personal best
  • and the list goes on.

On a Friday, four students are randomly selected from our raffle box and they get to spin the wheel for their prize. Students have been enjoying the rewards for their hard work! Students have been earning rewards over the term and they can 'cash' these in at an appropriate time. Fletcher chose to use his whole class game to play Punctuation Kung Fu in Writing, Ctayah and Lexi earned 15 minutes of outside time after their work was done, Addison was rewarded with some free time on the iPads where she practised some drawing from tutorial videos and Mae and Talia are going to test Mrs B's hot chocolate making skills for a nice warm beverage in the sun.

"Well done 5/6 students, you've earnt your prizes for your great work" -- Mrs B.

What's happening in Maths?

This week 5/6 students have been looking at shape and in particular 3 dimensional shapes. Students enjoyed working in small groups to complete the task of constructing 3D shapes, naming and describing them using their features such as vertices, edges, number of faces and base shapes. They are also practising to define the differences between pyramids and prisms. Here is some of the great work done by the 5/6 students.
