Years F/1

This week has been a short week with having the long weekend on Monday and we have been definitely busy in the F/1 room.

Congratulations to Billie and Sienna on reaching 25 nights of reading and they won a prize from the Treasure box!

This week, we have really focussed on their writing goals for the Year 1s. Some of the goals for the Year 1s are - spaces between words, using capital letters for names and re-reading our writing to check that it makes sense. We have been exploring narrative texts and using the known story of 'The Three Little Pigs', to write their own fairy tale.

The Foundation students are starting to write words into a simple sentence. We have used the decodable text 'The Nap' to help write our sentences - they did a wonderful job at remembering their ideas and are beginning to form their letters correctly.

In Maths this week, we used dominoes to make and add numbers. We then introduced the game to the Foundation students.  We finished our unit on length as well. We used our feet to measure things in our classroom. The foundation students found objects in the classroom that were smaller or larger than their feet. The Year 1s estimated the length of their feet with paper clips, unifix blocks and counters before measuring accurately what the length of their foot was. Did you know that Sienna's foot was 8 cubes long, Hunter's foot was 6 paper clips long and Ivy's foot was 10 counters long!

We love reading books in our class and we all borrowed from the school Library this week as well! We will go to the school library each Thursday, so can the students please return their books by then so we can borrow new ones!
