Health and Physical Education

Newlands is extremely excited to announce that our Year 4, 5 and 6 students have just began the interschool sport program in fully loaded softball, bat tennis and basketball. They are playing every Friday until the 1st of April (except Friday 11th of March).

On Monday, their class teachers had them for a training session to refine some of the skills. We wish our students the very best in their sport journey!

They have also had the opportunity to learn about diversity and identity through Aboriginal games in Physical Education. Currently, they are practising some of the skills in handball, such as dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and attacking and defending strategies. We are putting our focus on accepting rules, playing fairly, and demonstrating school values in sport games.

Our Foundation and Year 1 students have had the opportunity to make new friendships and to get to know the teacher through fun games and activities in their new house groups. In the first weeks, they greatly enjoyed physical activities that helped them understand the difference between self-space and general space. Also, they are practising movement skills such as walking, running, jumping and landing as they move safely in general space.

Year 2 and 3 students had a great start of the school year in Physical Education. They participated in team-building games to learn about spatial awareness and the importance of avoiding collisions. They are currently learning how to bounce balls in basketball, handball and netball.
