2022 Trinity College Caritas Australia Launch – Project Compassion

This week has been a very busy, but special week for Campus Ministry. On Tuesday 1 March, the College hosted Caritas Australia’s 2022 launch of Project Compassion. The theme was, Hope to all Future Generations! We commenced the launch with an Acknowledgement of Country by Colby Sibsado (12.1), who was then joined by George Warmdean (12.5) and Tryse Rioli (12.4), for a musical item on the didgeridoos and Cajon.

We were very fortunate to have The Very Reverent Fr Vincent Glynn celebrate the Liturgy and offer an engaging and meaningful Homily for over 1,200 students across 49 WA schools. COVID-19 presented its challenges, but this did not hinder us in delivering a hands-on experience for the 2022 launch.

Students participated in various activities, both in their school groups and in several breakout TEAMS sessions. Here, students were able to meet other likeminded people, aiming to action change for those in desperate need of support across the world. Our Year 12 facilitators were kept on their toes as they presented, lead breakout groups, and problem solved any technical issues on the day. Mrs Stewart, Mr Byrne, Fra Oscar and I couldn’t be prouder of these incredibly resilient and creative young men.

A big thank you to Mr Alex Terry, who was asked to organise the technical side of the live streaming of this event, when we could no longer host this in person at the College. Thank you to TC Café for providing pancakes and the Marketing Team for all their support.

As you reflect upon this year’s theme, Hope to all Future Generations, I leave you with this message, what will you do for Project Compassion?

Ash Wednesday Liturgy

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. A period of 40 days before Easter in the Christian calendar. It is a time to step out of our comfort zone and see how we can make a sacrifice, by giving up something or reaching out and assisting others in need.

As a College proving its resilience during COVID-19, restriction of numbers did not stop each Pastoral Care Group from participating. Groups either watched a live stream of our Ash Wednesday Liturgy, or braved running their own Liturgy in their PCG classrooms. All staff were provided with a PowerPoint, a Liturgy booklet, a tub of blessed ashes and three hymns. In addition, each group prepared a sacred space in their classrooms to celebrate this special Liturgy.

During this season of Lent, what will you do? During Lent, let us include time for prayer, fasting and Almsgiving (helping others). Some ideas may include:

  • Give up fast food
  • Having a swear jar and donate money to Project Compassion (PC)
  • Setting a family target for a donation
  • Fast from spending too much money. Try to reduce your spending by 10% and give these savings to the poor.
  • Fast from resentment and bitterness. Work on forgiving those who may have hurt you.
  • Aid an organisation in need - i.e. Red Cross Soup Patrol

During this Lenten period, I pray that we can work together as a Catholic community, supporting each other and serving the world. God bless and thank you to all families who make special sacrifices during this Lenten period.

Kairos #60 (3-6 April) Postponed

Due to recent COVID-19 restrictions, Kairos #60 has now been postponed to 17–20 July. This date will also be dependent upon COVID-19 regulations. The Kairos #60 group will be shifted to July. We will also try to find another suitable date for a third Kairos Retreat, time and restrictions permitting. I thank you for your continued understanding during this challenging time.
