Year 9 Community Day

Quick Draw, Evolution, Charades, Talking Circles, Tug O War and Affirmations, all focused on building RESPECT, were the key components of the Year 9 Community Day on Friday 11 March.

During the middle session of the day, Luke S. Kennedy inspired students to care for themselves physically, mentally and spiritually as well as stressing that if something is not serving you then you have a choice to make a change. All small changes add up to moving your life in the direction you want it to go. This demonstrates RESPECT for yourself.

Choosing to be around people who serve you and make you feel good about yourself was another key message Luke left the students with. Be people who build others up. This demonstrates RESPECT for others.

Students were guided through the activities by their Academic Care and Wellbeing Coordinators, and morning tea and lunch were organised and supplied by Narelle Potts and Dave Lugton. We want to acknowledge their ongoing support in making days like this happen for our Kildare College Community.

Thank you to Ryan Price, Jo O’Brien, Peter Gaffney, Crisa McCartan, Steph Garrod and Cherie Hope for your positive leadership throughout the day.

Here are some reflections from the students about Standouts from Luke S. Kennedy:

  • Make good choices.

  • Do not to waste my life away with wrong choices and wrong people

  • Do not feel like you have to do something just to fit in

  • You need to be consistent, you need to be dependably good and the little things you do will depend on that

  • Show up, always get up and try again

  • Try hard in school and surround myself with good friends

  • To be yourself and get outside your comfort zone.

  • Believe in yourself, don't let other people's perceptions of you obstruct your desires in life.

  • You have the ability to do whatever you want if you put your mind to it, and don't let labels define you

  • Try hard, be resilient, get out of your comfort zone

Thank you Year 9 for your enthusiastic cooperation. Let’s continue to grow RESPECT.
