What's Happening
in RE Classrooms?
Term 1 Week 7 2022
This week Years 7-9 finish their first unit of work in preparation for their second topic starting next week.
In topic 1, Year 7 have been learning about Kildare and our charisms of Nano Nagle, Edmund Rice and St Brigid and the connections to our House patrons, as people of peace. Next, students will learn about the importance of sacred places in the Catholic Church focusing on our beautiful, and recently restored, Mt Erin Chapel. Our focus questions for this topic are:
Why do we visit sacred places? And What are we reenacting when we visit this place?
In this topic, we will focus on significant sacred spaces on our expansive College grounds including Mt Erin Chapel, Mt Erin Heritage Centre, Erin Earth, and the Grotto
In this unit students learn about the importance of Easter in the Catholic Church including the significant events during the Lenten season and Holy Week. Students then apply this understanding to key Christian beliefs in regard to the meaning of life, suffering and life after death, using scriptural evidence.
The second topic of Year 9 extends on the first topic of Justice & Peace by focusing on Jesus as the Prince of Peace. In this topic, students look at and analyse various artistic and literary images of Jesus. Through the study of these images students develop and deepen their understanding of the person of Jesus Christ and how an image shapes understanding of Christian life.
All parents and caregivers would have received a Compass email titled “Visit to sacred places- Religious Education”. This Compass note is seeking your permission for your son or daughter to visit various significant religious sites on the College grounds. In their timetabled Religious Education classes, students will visit the Mt Erin Chapel, Mt Erin Heritage Centre, Erin Earth, and the Grotto. Visits to these sites meet syllabus outcomes and supplement the learning of the classroom. This permission note covers each Incursion held at various times throughout 2022. Your provision of consent as soon as possible is appreciated.
Year 12 SOR students are currently preparing for their second HSC Assessment Task.
