Diocesan Tennis

Our Kildare Tennis team competed in the Diocesan Tennis Competition held at Bolton Park on Tuesday, March 1 against teams from Mater Dei, Xavier Albury and St Francis Leeton. All teams played 4 singles matches and 2 doubles matches against each school.

Apart from Hannah Forwood (Year 11) who competed last year, this was the first outing for 7 of the 8 players who put their names forward to represent the College this year. Our girls’ team was represented by Hannah, Meisha Casley  (Year 9), Eilis Canny (Year 8 )and Lucy Evans (Year 9). They played with great enthusiasm and competitiveness, and grew in confidence and skill as the day progressed.

Our boys were represented by Albert Middleton, Riley Bradshaw, Rohan Day (all in Year 9), and Lincoln Merrett in Year 7. They competed admirably against players older and bigger than themselves, and had their greatest success winning against Leeton at the end of the day. There was plenty of wonderful shot making and great teamwork in the doubles matches. Both teams had many long and close matches going to deuce.

Many thanks to all players for volunteering to play at such short notice. You demonstrated wonderful Kildare spirit and represented yourselves and the College beautifully. We look forward to going from strength to strength with this young team over the next few years.
