The Year 3 children have been exploring the concept of ‘Where we are in place and time,’ and specifically personal histories, homes and journeys. Our inquiry statement has been, ‘Stories from our past influence who we are’. Children have been learning about perspectives of people from the past, the connection between land and people, significant events that have occurred in Australian history and reasons why people have migrated to Australia to make it the diverse country it is today.
To action their learning, children chose a personal project they wanted to work on in iTime. Some of the projects included family trees, dioramas of the First Fleet, stop motion showing the journey to Australia, creating a traditional family recipe book and cooking one of the favourites, biographies of people who have made a difference to Australia and traditional dances. To celebrate their learning the children set up an expo where they showcased their projects for the Years 1 and 2 classes. We are all so proud of their efforts.

Melissa Hall has experience in worm farming, bee hives and composting and came to speak to Years 1 and 2 children recently about the topics. She shared her knowledge and provided children with an opportunity to make connections with our current Inquiry topic, 'Our actions impact the planet'.
The children were very excited to see how worm farms are set up, including how to feed worms and how soil is made. The children had lots of wonderings about bees that Melissa was able to answer, and some experienced wearing a beekeeper's safety gear that created a lot of excitement. As a result of Melissa’s presentation, we now have two worm farms in the School of Wonder learning space that prompted some children to establish and promote composting bins at our school.

School of Wonder children are expected to read a school reader each school night and to change their reader daily unless they are reading a chapter book. The School of Wonder is missing many take-home readers and we ask parents/carers to return all books they have at home. The return of all take-home readers will ensure children have a wide selection of books to choose from daily. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Some of our School of Wonder children had a fantastic time participating in Zaidee's Mad Cow Mud Run at KidsTown recently. They called themselves the 'Muddy Buddies'. Nate and Lily's mum Teigen Hall made their shirts and Seamus and Aidan's mum Emma Burke organised the team entry.
Great collaboration kids and well done for doing your best out in the community!
