Principal's Report

Carly Avery

Dear Parents and Friends,

Thank you to those who were able to attend our Picnic on the Turf on Friday night. It was perfect weather, a lovely, relaxed gathering. We are certainly looking forward to more of these.

We invite you to join us for our Blessing Ceremony, in lieu of our Beginning of Year School Mass. This will take place tomorrow morning at 9 am on the Turf.

On Monday Mark Butters and I were fortunate to visit the kinder with some of our Year 5 students. It was wonderful to meet some potential new buddies, have a play and read some books! Jason Tepper and I will visit again this Friday with some more Year 5 students.

I encourage you to also read our Parent Engagement section for exciting information about the Goldenhorse Festival!

Next Wednesday 30th March at 6:00 pm we will be holding a community engagement session on our Strategic School Master Plan.

We are currently in our third year of our Strategic Plan and finalising an outdoor Master Plan. With the challenges of the past couple of years and a lack of parent engagement opportunities, we thought it would be a great opportunity to share with you work that has progressed to date on the current master plan, as well as an opportunity for you to provide your feedback and suggestions for the continuous improvement of our school.  Whilst we are midway through the planning cycle, the overall plan is not set in stone and adjusted in line with the changing needs of our school community.

A shared vision (not bound by time frames) of what we would like for St. Joseph’s is the intended outcome of the meeting. I encourage you to have a think about some of the following areas that will be discussed:

  • Playspaces / playground improvement / undercover areas
  • Internal classroom spaces
  • Resources and school equipment
  • Bespoke programs – Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden and Social Enterprise, skills for the future, resilience building
  • Science and Technology programs
  • Social and Emotional Development programs
  • Development of arts programs
  • Before and After School Care
  • Parent support and engagement resources and activities (community-building social activities)
  • Wider Beechworth (and beyond) Community engagement – first nations people, meals on wheels and social justice initiatives

This session is being jointly organised by the School Council parent group along with the staff.  We strongly value the partnership between parents and the school, and given the challenges, over the last two years, it would be great to see you there!
