HEALTH

HEALTH IS WEALTH

Students undertaking Unit 3 Health and Human Development are currently exploring health promotion initiatives and nutrition. This involves learning about the numerous ways the Federal Government and Non-Government Organisations advocate for a healthier society, and how various foods impact our health.

Health and Human Development is a subject where you not only learn content, but implement key health literacy into your life. In our recent homework task, we were asked to use health promotion material such as the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating (AGHE) and Nutrition Australia to find/develop a healthy meal to cook for our families. As a part of this, we experienced some first-hand challenges when faced with the common question ‘What’s for dinner, tonight?’

Lack of time to prepare and cook meals, willpower, likes and dislikes and modifying recipes to suit dietary needs are only some guiding factors. Some of the nutritious meals we made included soup, polenta pizza and noodles, of course with lots of fresh seasonal produce.

Units 3 + 4 Health and Human Development is truly an amazing subject, and I encourage everyone to give it a go! The teachers are fabulous, and the information we learn is interesting and beneficial for our future.
