YEAR 10 CERAMIC PLANTERS - LOCAL NEIGHBOURHOOD

Year 10 Ceramic students recently completed these spectacular planters based around the theme of their local neighbourhood. Following a walking excursion of the local area, students took photos and sketched numerous design ideas for their planters.

Ideas ranged from the local park, their house, local shops, restaurants, school lockers, plants and flowers, the Post Office and the ever popular 7/11.

We joked in class that students would be able to keep their planter for years to come when they move out of home into their first house as a memento to their time spent at McKinnon and this neighbourhood.

Students worked hard at perfecting their hand building ceramic skills whilst incorporating their personal imagery onto their planters.

We hope you enjoy seeing some images of their beautiful pieces. We are sure they will become treasured mementos for years to come!

YEAR 10 ART EXCURSION

Recently our Year 10 Art Students went into the city to explore several exhibitions at the Ian Potter Centre NGV, starting their excursion by viewing the New Australian Printmaking exhibition.

Students completed a scavenger hunt around the gallery, and throughout Federation Square, to discover all the places where art can be found. One question asked students to find political art in Hosier Lane, another asked students to find a portrait that they could identify with to express their mood. The students had a great time exploring and discovering new ways of viewing and experiencing art.

Below is a poem written by a student during the excursion:

Artwork upon artwork,

Everywhere I look,

Big ones and small ones and curvy ones and straight ones,

Art is all around us.

- Indiana Harrison, Year 10E

Another student wrote:

I had lots of fun on this excursion because I love art and I especially love visiting art galleries, I also had lots of fun with my friends. It was so much fun to be able to discover the art and have the freedom to explore.
