YEAR 12 ELECTION DAY SAUSAGE SIZZLE

The highly awaited election day brought about immense unity across the Year 12 cohort. A group of Year 12s, organised by Sam Potter, ran the sausage sizzle at McKinnon Secondary’s polling booth.

The election is always a huge fundraising day at most schools, and for McKinnon itself buying a delicious democracy sausage helped contribute to the Year 12s amenities. We ended up raising $1,500, something that will greatly support the hard-working Year 12s.

This particularly beautiful day resulted in a huge turnout, with twenty Year 12s volunteering throughout the day. Despite a few mishaps - running out of gas and having to sprint to 7/11 to buy more, it didn’t stop the flood of enthusiasm and enjoyment the day brought about. The Ormond Ice-Creamery was also there, selling hot jam donuts and a delectable range of ice cream.

There were many pleased customers, some of which included Alana McRostie (the Green’s candidate for Goldstein) and Nick Stakos. And with much satisfaction Nick Staikos granted McKinnon Secondary College the winner of the ‘Democracy Sausage Sizzle!’

WARRNAMBOOL CAMP

During this term all of the students from Year 9 have gone on a very successful camp in Warrnambool and have completed many different activities and courses that will really help them later on in life.

During the two weeks, the Year 9 students were split into four different groups. The first thing that my class did was the study skills session, but this was only one of the first of many skills that we were going to learn during this time.

The activities and courses that we completed during the two weeks were study skills, a barista course, a food handling course and a first aid course. All of these courses I thought were a great way to prepare and help yourself in the future.

On the first day of camp we went whale watching and went on a walk along the beach to where we were going to be picked up and brought back to the university. On the second day of camp we went on a bush walk and learnt about what life was like in Australia when it was only Aboriginal people, we also went to a remake of what a town would be like in the past and learnt about how many different things used to work. And on the third day we went home.

Overall, I found these two weeks very enjoyable and helpful and would love to do it again.
