Overall, the two week job skills and camp program has been one that definitely did not disappoint. The wide variety of activities throughout the two weeks has left many of us more job ready and knowledgeable than before.

The Camp to Warrnambool was with a doubt the highlight of the two weeks for me. Despite the cold weather the beach walk and experience at Flagstaff Hill was enjoyable whilst the trip to Tower Hill left us all surprised at how much we had genuinely learned about Indigenous People and their lives pre-colonization. Hands-on activities such as getting to eat bush tucker and learning how to throw boomerangs were balanced with a more theory-based discussion which left our group as a whole more culturally aware and also prepared for our upcoming learning task in English; a film analysis on a documentary called In My Blood It Runs.

We also had the opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops which were designed to get us as job ready as possible. The CPR course was important and useful in putting on job applications which many of us will be filling in over the course of the next couple of years. The Food-handling and Cafe skills were mostly theory based which was a good balance between the Barista course which I know was a personal favourite for many.

The experience has overall left our year level more prepared for life after McKinnon and the camp experience is one that will definitely be one of the many highlights that Year 9 has to offer.
