MAKING SKINCARE PRODUCTS

In Year 10 Chemistry, we recently made a series of skincare products. In our previous Chemistry lesson, the class learned all about emulsions, and their common occurrence in everyday products that we all use. Students were first tasked with investigating types of emulsions, oil-in-water, and water-in-oil.

We were able to apply this knowledge to practice by conducting a practical experiment. In groups, students evaluated and made common skincare recipes, ranging from hand creams to facial moisturisers. This task demonstrated how differentiating ingredient ratios affected consistency, feel, and absorption to skin.

This task was both interesting and valuable to our learning. We were even able to take a sample of our products home to use. It formed a foundation for future learning in this subject.
