Phonics

Term Two and we continued working on our phonogram sounds and spelling.  We also focussed on our spelling rules.  This included the FSZL gang, ar and a rule, and the jobs of silent final e.

We have loved our phonogram activities as well.  These range from phonogram bingo, phonogram car blending, phonogram hangman and many others.

Each week our teachers have been working with Shane (our Literacy Consultant and Speech Pathologist) for best teaching practice.  We have also been tracking our data to target our teaching as well as highlight areas of growth and need for our children.

We do have our favourite phonograms too!  Some students love our king of the codes 'ough', whilst others love 'ow' and 'ea'.  What's your favourite phonogram?

Reading

Everyone loves a good book!  Especially the Year Ones and Twos!

Our CAFE focus' this Term were:

-Using prior knowledge to connect with the text.

-Features of a non fiction text.

-Summarising a text.

-Using dictionaries, Thesauruses and glossaries as tools.

We also continued to consolidate and extend our reading skills through our reader's workshop

Writing

Can I persuade you to write a piece about a why having a superpower such as invisibility is better than reading minds?

Or would you like to read my information report on elephants and learn some interesting facts about them?

This Term we looked closely at the art of persuasive text and how using persuasive language can help sway a reader's opinion.  We also learnt about information text and how we can write to inform an audience about a particular topic.  We enjoyed writing for a variety of purposes in our 'Ideas notebook' and improving our use of punctuation, connectives, openers and vocabulary with our VCOP word study sessions.
