The Presentation Evening is our annual event that celebrates the hard work and achievements of our wonderful students.
Congratulations to Kailyn O'Connor who through her hard work and dedication is our College Dux.
Kailyn has also been invited to present "Top Talks" which is an invitation only offered to the highest achieving students across the state in Extended Investigation. Kailyn was ranked an amazing 3rd in the state.
Following is a copy of her speech she delivered on Presentation Evening.
"Good evening, I would like to start by saying thank you to all the teachers, family and friends who provided me with endless support throughout my time at Mornington Secondary College. It is an honour to be standing here today and I could never have done it without you.
This has been an incredible journey, filled with both highs and lows that resulted in not just a number, but the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and friendships which I am so lucky to have gained. Six years of high school has taught me so much and opened the door to so many opportunities that I never deemed possible. I look forward to building on this foundation and seeing where university takes me.
To the students, from year 7 to the class of 2019, good luck for your remaining years of high school, embrace them as an adventure and a chance to discover your passions wherever they may lie. For the senior students, I implore you to utilise the resources that are available, speak to your coordinators, attend those extra revision classes and use the study centers if you find yourself procrastinating.
Respect and value your teachers because they will do anything in their power to help you get where you want to be. I know mine certainly did and I am forever grateful for that.
I encourage you to get involved in extra-curricular activities, sports, music, arts, follow your passions or find something new. Personally, it was the athletics squad that I couldn’t run away from. The six years of early morning training taught me dedication, persistence and how to push myself harder than I believed I could. Such lessons were invaluable when I was faced with the challenges of VCE.
In fact this final year was the last leg of a race for me and that smile over the finish line could not have been achieved without all those who worked so tirelessly behind the scenes. My teachers have coached me with kindness and passion since year seven. My wonderful family and Dream Catcher mentor Mrs Walsh were always there to keep me on my feet. And my friends, who ran alongside me, reminded me why I had to keep going and keep smiling.
Thank you Mornington for this experience and for allowing me to achieve beyond what I ever dared to dream."
