Queensland Premier's Reading Challenge

In 2021, Rockhampton North Special School, along with 925 schools and 357 centres took part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, more than 168,000 Queensland children and students read over 2.39 million books.

The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an annual state-wide initiative for Queensland state and non-state schools and home-educated students from Prep to Year 9, as well as children (aged up to 5 years) enrolled in an early childhood centre.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.

Rockhampton North Special School is again a part of the 2022 Reading Challenge. Students are encouraged to read books at home and at school and these can be added to the books read each week during Literacy lessons.  Books that are read by parents, siblings and carers to students, can be counted in the total number of books read.

The Premier’s reading Challenge has started and all students will have a book reading list sent home so that the books read at home can be added to the student’s books read list. The books read list will be sent via Seesaw. Teachers will add the books read during class to the students list. The Premier’s Reading Challenge ends on 20 August 2022. The total number of books read by each student will be uploaded to the Premiers Reading Challenge website by the co-ordinator, Akaysha Hollande. Certificates will be awarded later in the year to all students who participate.
