Performing Arts

What's been happening?

This semester in Performing Arts has definitely been a fun one! Students have been exploring all things Music this semester and made some seriously awesome noise.

This semester students have learnt about beat, rhythm and tempo in a variety of ways in Music. They have also tried and tested a great range of percussion instruments; the djembe’s have definitely been a crowd favourite. Not only have students learnt about instruments and music skills but have also been developing their musicality. All students have had the opportunity to share their likes and dislikes towards instruments, song and rhythms with discussions about how everyone has different preferences in music. Students have also been working hard on their listening skills as a member of a group performing songs, as well as copying, learning and echoing rhythms and patterns. Some students also let their own creative skills shine by create their own songs and rhythms.

The digital music world has definitely been given its fair use in the Performing Arts room this semester. Students have used a variety of digital music platforms to create sounds and music. Students engaged in sound making programs that are sensitive to touch and respond accordingly, which has allowed those using it to create an editable sound suited to how they want it to sound. Some students have also harnessed their DJ skills through the digital platform and used their listening skill and musically to select and layer music, beat and rhythms to mix together to create their own song.

I am a very proud Performing Arts teacher this semester, as students have demonstrated courage by performing to their peers, which is the hardest audience to stand in front of. I am very excited and looking forward to next semester when students will be studying Dance.
