A rundown of our Wellbeing Presentations so far for 2022!

Encounter Youth Presentations

This term our students across Year’s 10-12 were thankfully able to engage in the Encounter Youth research-based, up-to-date and holistic alcohol & other drug school program. The Empower Education Team support and equip young people to make a lasting difference in their communities and the world at large. The program is holistic, positive, interactive, curriculum-aligned and customizable. They aim to alert, inform, and empower young people to bring about safer, more meaningful celebration and adopt a harm minimisation approach and encourage students to ‘look after themselves and their mates’.

The Year 10 students completed the ‘Who’s Calling Your Shots’ Seminar looking at the impact of alcohol and other drugs and how to look after themselves and their mates.
The Year 11’s completed the ‘Alert Not Alarmed’ Seminar discussing consent, looking after your friends and recognising when something is wrong and responding among other things.
The Year 12’s completed the #Adulting Seminar looking at how to become an adult, an important program for our soon to be graduates!

Carly Ryan Presentation

On Monday 16th June, all year 7-10 students attended a presentation by the Carly Ryan Foundation. The presentation is an incredibly valuable experience. The Carly Ryan Team aims to raise student awareness about the importance of online safety; their vision is to create a positive experience online for all children, teens and young adults.

Carly’s mother Sonya Ryan endeavors to help parents not only through her foundation and their moving presentations to students but also through providing valuable information to parents about online apps.

Sammy D Foundation Presentation

Following the devastating loss of their son Sam to a one punch attack, his parents, Nat Cook and Neil Davis, founded the Sammy D Foundation, with the ultimate aim of providing skills to young people in order to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. The Sammy D Foundation educates young people on the impacts of bullying, violence drug and alcohol misuse. By providing relevant age appropriate information, knowledge and tools, the Sammy D Foundation empowers young people to make positive life decisions for a better community. Thirteen years on, the Sammy D Foundation has spread Sam's message across hundreds of schools, community groups, and sporting clubs, raising awareness and educating over 140,000 young people about the consequences of violent behavior, and the risks associated with alcohol and drug misuse.

Our students were lucky enough to attend their ‘Violence Prevention Education’ program this term and it started many important conversations with students about the impact of violence, both immediately and long term.
