Pastoral Bulletin

Welcome to Week 9 of Term 2 2023

News and Reminders from your Pastoral Leaders.

General School News

  • On Tuesday the College will host our Annual Athletics Carnival. It is a wonderful community event celebrating house spirit and sportsmanship in the College. All students are expected to attend. Students absent from the College will need to explain through the usual process. Attendance at these events creates a good school culture and engages students in positive relationships. We look forward to the event on Tuesday.
  • All students are to wear HOUSE UNIFORM on Monday and Tuesday next week for the House Assembly and Athletics Carnival.
  • Tuesday’s timetable will be run on Monday due to the Athletics Carnival. Students are expected to prepare appropriately with correct equipment for this day.
  • A reminder that students must bring their EFTPOS cards or cash to purchase lunch from the tuckshop. Students cannot use their mobile phones or electronic devices as per the mobile phone policy. Mobile phones will be confiscated if used during this time.

Regards

Year 7

  • Good luck to all students who nominated to compete in an event at the Athletics Carnival on Tuesday.  The level of enthusiasm and house spirit has been amazing among the Year 7 cohort during House Assembly.
  • Lastly, students are reminded to respect the learning of others and be aware of their noise level when transitioning from electives. Especially during the Wednesday period 1 & 2 double, where students change electives half way through the session.

Year 8

  • Due to the ongoing litter problem the area at the back of the Green Leaf cafe is now out of bounds to all Year 8 students until further notice.
  • A reminder that students have assessments due over the next two weeks. Please check the assessment calendar accessible on the College website.

Year 9

  • Students will receive their elective allocations for Semester 2 this week.  Any subject changes must be made before the end of Week 10.  Students are to come to the back office and ask for Mrs Ross.
  • The focus for SEL this term has been based around understanding how to be organised so students do not become overwhelmed during assessment time. Parents can support this work by talking to their students around what has been stressful this term and discuss how they can overcome the problem next term. More conversations around this can help students better understand and communicate their needs.

Year 10

  • Last week at Community PG, it was announced that there were some changes to the VET enrolment process for 2024.  Students will no longer be guaranteed placement in the VET program simply because they are a St Mary’s student.  Attendance, academic results, attitude and effort will all be taken into consideration.  VET students will be representing the College at work placement and therefore need to demonstrate they are able to meet the College expectations prior to being offered a placement.I encourage all students to give their best in these areas.
  • We are looking forward to a successful Athletics Carnival on Tuesday.  Please ensure that House uniform is worn on Monday AND Tuesday this week.  Let’s all “Be In It”.
  • Please complete the Parent Slip that was emailed last week regarding permission to attend Year 10 Retreat & the University Excursion.
