Labour Market Update

While labour market updates can sometimes seem all doom and gloom, we need to look to the positives and increase awareness of where the growth areas are. Being more aware of the growth areas and working towards future employment in these fields, will assist students and help to protect their employment prospects. The graph below shows the projected growth in particular sectors in the five years to November 2026.

There will be jobs for our current students, but there are things they can be doing to ensure they are competitive when looking for employment:

  • Get work experience, volunteer work, internships and part time work in the area you are interested in working;
  • Build your network;
  • Customise your resume and cover letter for each individual job and create a professional online profile;
  • Obtain leadership skills;
  • Be flexible – adjust your career plan and look beyond what you originally envisioned.

Career Bites Sessions

Would you like to be part of our Futures program at Huntingtower?

Thank you to the members of the HT community who have responded to my short survey regarding sharing your experiences in your career and related industry with our senior students. Our first “Career Bites” session was held on May 19th during Year 11 Futures and students were lucky enough to hear about careers in Medicine, Business/Commerce and Design. If you would like to be a part of this exciting program, and help our students make informed choices about their futures, please complete the very short survey here.

Upcoming Events

Universities continue to offer a range of onsite and online activities including campus tours and course information sessions. Please see the details below regarding dates and how to register for these events. Even if you have missed a session of interest, you should still be able to register to receive the recording if the event was held online. As always, I highly recommend students in years 10-12 use these events to assist with their planning and decision making.

Tertiary Open Days - 2023

Below is a list of the dates for the tertiary open days for 2023. As you can see, August is incredibly busy for open days, so I advise that if you are a student in Year 10 or 11, you start early and attend some of the institutions that may be of interest, so that you don’t run out of time trying to attend them all in Year 12! I will continue to update the table as more institutions publish their dates, and registration for open day information can be made by clicking on the link in the table.
