Parents & Friends

What is the Parents & Friends group?

Violet Street Primary School used to have a fantastic P&F group who would arrange social events and fundraisers.  When covid-19 hit, it was hard to continue on and plan ahead so it wound up.  We're lucky to have been brought back to life by one of our School Council members Jess, who remembered how welcoming it was to have social events to meet other families!

We hope to:

  • help families get to know each other by organising casual catch ups and family events
  • help families get involved in the school community by linking anyone with a bit of spare time with volunteering opportunities at the school (things like reading with your child and their class, helping in the garden, and helping in the kitchen at breaky club... there are more and we'll keep letting you know through the newsletter)
  • support the school financially by organising fundraising events
  • support the Student Leadership Council to bring some of their plans and ideas to life.

A group of parents have started to gather together at the catch ups we've held so far and it was so lovely to see so many families enjoying the BBQ last week!

Joining the organising crew and notice of AGM 2023

The Parents & Friends catch ups will always be for the entire school community - you don't need to join, just turn up if you feel like a chat!  BUT if you want to get involved with organising or keeping things ticking along in the background, it is super easy to fill out a form and join the committee (if you do, again there is no minimum commitment of time, you can just chip in when it suits you).  If you help out in person at any events that involve children, you will also need a a current Working With Children Check (info linked).

We are holding our first Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 19th June after school (location TBA) - please bring your child/children and come along if you are interested, you can fill in a form if you choose to join committee on the day.

The main reason for the AGM is to elect a President, Secretary and Treasurer.  You can nominate beforehand by emailing Carolyn or you might put your hand up on the day.  Joining a committee can also be a fantastic way to build on your skillset and looks great on your resume, so don't feel like you need to be super confident or have any experience to join!

Can't wait to see you there!
