Last week, we welcomed potential 2024 Kindergarten students and families to our Grammar Experience sessions. Whilst the students were engaged in classroom programs, parents attended an information session followed by a school tour where we were able to showcase our wonderful facilities. This experience was followed by enrolment interviews on Saturday morning. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and Year 6 leaders who volunteered their time to support this morning.

Our comprehensive Kindergarten transition program includes a variety of opportunities for both students and families to connect with our school to ensure a smooth transition. We are committed to discuss possible school readiness concerns openly and transparently with parents and we work closely with the Preschool and Kindergarten Educators whose input is highly valued. Whilst we visit the Preschools later in the year to discuss individuals’ needs, we have enjoyed visiting many of our local Preschools and Kindergartens to run our engaging complimentary student workshops.

On Wednesday, we were able to visit two different centres to run the popular Music Workshop. Music is said to provide a unique opportunity for literacy preparation. Whether the children are singing, playing, or listening, teachers direct them to listen and hear in new ways which exercises their aural discrimination. We thank the educators at Journey Early Learning Echuca and Shine Bright Echuca South Community Kindergarten for welcoming us into their rooms. A special thank you to Mrs Tonkin and the Year 6 leaders for facilitating such a fun session.

Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. On Monday 29 May, School leaders and selected students took part in the Reconciliation Community Walk from Hare Street to Hopwood Gardens where we watched the flag raising ceremony. Throughout the week, students learned about our country’s rich history and culture and they participated in a range of activities in their classrooms.

Primary Choir Eisteddfod - WINNERS!

Today our Primary Choir, which consists of our Jr Singers and all Year 4 students, participated in the 97th Annual Bendigo Eisteddfod, in the Primary Novice Choir Section. Students performed superbly and received wonderful feedback and praise from the adjudicators. Consdering this was our first entry in the Eisteddfod, we were not expecting to win our section.

Primary Assembly

It was great to connect at the Primary School Assembly on Friday 26 May. Congratulations to Lila Mislicki, Greta Broadhead, Stella Smith and Cleo Haw from Year 4 for running this Assembly in the absence of our Year 6 leaders who attended the Primary Netball tournament on this day. We enjoyed some beautiful performances from Emily Parsons on piano and Hamish Moon on guitar.

The Year 1 cohort performance was enjoyed by students and parents when, after their performance of the song ‘Danny was a crocodile’, the tables were turned and parents were invited to sing along. We look forward to our next Assembly on Friday 21 July when the Year 5 cohort will perform for us.

In addition, we celebrated those students who were awarded their Core Value Award. Core Value Awards are awarded to students who consistently display one or more of the school’s core values and motto. Congratulations to the students below. Keep up the great work!

Stage 2 Citizenship Awards

Citizenship Awards in Year 3 and Year 4 are to recognise students who have demonstrated kindness, respect for others and have been an all-round fantastic member of the School community. Someone that goes above and beyond to make people feel welcomed, safe and cared for. The award is peer nominated which allows students an opportunity to recognise those people around them who are great citizens of our School community, people who are role models to them and others in their class. It allows students to show gratitude for the consistent small things that someone does to make their day happier.

Fundraiser Cancer Council

Our Term 2 fundraiser supports the Cancer Council. Cancer Council is the only charity that works across every area of cancer, from research to prevention and support. Every day, the Cancer Council supports people affected by cancer when they need it most, speaking out on behalf of the community on cancer issues, empowering people to reduce their cancer risk, and finding new ways to better detect and treat cancer. On Friday 16 June, Primary students are invited to attend school out of uniform and we encourage everyone to wear a pop of yellow to support the great work the Cancer Council are doing in the fight against Cancer.

Da Vinci Decathlon Regionals

We would like to wish our Year 5 and Year 6 team all the best as they prepare for the upcoming regional finals for the Da Vinci Decathlon in Wagga Wagga on Wednesday 7 June. The Da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. In total, 16 Primary students have been working with Mrs Rykers and Miss Briggs to compete in 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.

Young Performers Concert

On Thursday 15 June, our annual Young Performers Concert evening is scheduled. Families are welcome to attend the concert and enjoy a wonderful evening of music performed by Primary students who participate in our extra- and co-curricular music program. University of Melbourne (UOM) Psychology Clinic

Our School has been fortunate for many years to utilise the professional services of the UOM Psychology Clinic. Dr Chelsea Hyde, the clinic manager and her team are scheduled to visit Moama Anglican Grammar from 19 - 21 June to conduct educational psychology assessment services for selected students.

The regional clinic provides educational assessment services to communities in regional Victoria. Psychological assessments are conducted by provisional psychologists who are currently undertaking advanced training in the Master of Educational Psychology program at the University of Melbourne. All services are closely supervised by a team of lecturers and highly-experienced registered psychologists, all of whom hold endorsement in educational and developmental psychology and registration as supervisors with the Psychology Board of Australia. The clinic offers psycho-educational assessments for children and adolescents that measure a profile of cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses.

Families are provided with a written report which lists the results and individualised recommended strategies which are instrumental in providing individualised support for students at school. Sexuality Education Program Years 4-6

As part of our Pastoral Care program and the NSW Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) curriculum for Years 4 to 6, we have engaged the services of Kelly Nash and Cath McCallig to provide our Sexuality Education programs in 2023. Both Kelly and Cath have worked closely with MAG for these sessions over the last nine years. They will deliver age appropriate information about the physical, social and emotional changes at puberty for each class. These sessions will take place in classrooms on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 June.

Parents are invited to attend two information sessions.

This information session will be on Monday 19 June from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in our Resource Centre. It provides an opportunity to discuss the rationale and content of the Sexuality Education programs that will be delivered to your child/ren.
The ‘Mother and Daughter’ information session will be conducted on Tuesday 20 June from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in our Resource Centre. This session has been designed specifically to help prepare girls for physical and emotional changes of puberty and menstruation.
