Senior School Update
As we near the pointy end of Units 1 and 3, I want to commend our students for their hard work and stamina in getting through the assessments thus far. In addition, our teachers have gone over and above to support our students, ensuring they have extra time, resources and assistance.
Parents and carers, you can support your young people at home by tuning into Elevate’s upcoming webinar below:
Upcoming webinar for parents – Ask Elevate Anything
We’re excited to announce that Elevate Education's next free webinar will be taking place on Wednesday 24th May, titled ‘Ask Elevate Anything’. The Year 11s enjoyed Elevate’s Time Management seminar this week and learnt some strategies to assist them with organising their study schedules and other commitments. This has been followed up with free resources which can be accessed here: Time Management - Student Activity Pack.pdf
Our Year 10s have their Elevate session about study tips next week on Tuesday 23 May, so if you haven’t paid via Compass, please do so ASAP.
Elephant Ed
We have planned for a wellbeing workshop for the Year 10 cohort on Friday 9 June which will cover sensitive topics such as consent. It is run by experienced practitioners who work with young people every day. Please keep an eye out for this event to go up on Compass very soon and have a conversation with your young person about this area of their lives.
Subject Selection Information for Year 10 students heading into Year 11:
Please note the following dates and times for course counselling and our VCE Information Night:
The GAT
All students currently undertaking a Unit 3/4 sequence are required to sit the GAT on June 15 this year. This includes those studying a scored VET subject and VCAL (Section A only). The following information is taken from the VCAA website for your information:
The General Achievement Test (GAT) assesses your skills in mathematics, science, technology, the arts and humanities. The GAT also assesses your skills against new literacy and numeracy standards, which were introduced last year. Sitting the GAT is an opportunity to demonstrate your literacy and numeracy skills – essential skills that show you’re ready to move on to further study, training or employment. It will give you confidence that your skills are at the right level to support you, whatever you choose to do after school. GAT results are also important for checking that VCE external assessments and school-based assessments have been accurately and fairly assessed, and can be used if you have a Derived Examination Score (DES) approved.
The GAT will take place on Thursday 15 June in two parts:
Year 12 SAC Update:
You may have seen the notice that staff are undertaking a Professional Practice Day on 19 June when the General Mathematics, Literature and Maths Methods SACs were scheduled. GENERAL MATHS AND LITERATURE ARE STILL GOING AHEAD, but earlier in the day; the Methods SAC will occur on another day in the same week during class time.
The Literature SAC will be held from 9.45am in V4. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before hand to ensure you’re ready and prepared. It will run for 75 minutes.
The General Maths SAC will be held from 12pm – 2pm in the Senior Centre. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before hand to ensure you’re ready and prepared.
YEAR 10 AND 11 EXAMS
Please note the dates of the upcoming Year 10 and 11 Exams. They will be held in E Block this semester and the Bunjil Centre for the end-of-year exams.
Students are only required for the period/s of the subjects for which they have exams. However, if they have a break between exams on one day, they must remain at the College and study in the Senior Centre. They cannot go home in between.
Here is a reminder of how often students should be studying and revising outside of school hours, pertinent in the lead-up to these assessments:
