Alternate Programs

Liam Offer - Assistant Principal VCM VM

Welcome to Week 4

The term has started well and students are doing incredible things not only in schools but also in the community.

I was lucky enough to have been invited to the unveiling of the Murtoa silo art. This project started as an idea for a Horsham College Alternate Programs in 2019. He felt somewhat disappointed that his hometown of Murtoa was not part of the Silo Trail. Therefore young Aiden Hart and his teacher Peter Armstrong got to work in proposing to Murtoa Council the need for it to help the town with tourist, to generate more money in the economy and for a school project.

Aiden worked tirelessly to get the project off the ground and should be commended for his efforts. His teacher Peter Armstrong is also to be commended for working through this project for the past 3 years, to ensure that this young man has success.

Well done

BLUE GROUP

Blue Group visited the Horsham Art Gallery Education Space and created the pictures displayed here. They were instructed by Artist: Shane and used gridlines to help create proportion and scale in their artwork. Students worked really well a good session was had by all!

Thursday 4th May, Blue group students participated in their first lesson of a 5 week swimming block at the YMCA as a part of their PE class for water safety and swimming program. The lessons, made available to the class with 2 x wonderful, patient instructors Michelle and Siggy to work with our students on a small group scale, were possible due to working closely with Alicia Drew, Youth Services Planning and Engagement Office for the Horsham Rural City council. We thank Alicia and the HRCC for the opportunity.
