Sport Update

Term 2

Term 2 has been a very busy term for all things sport! We are so proud of all our students for the enthusiasm and effort they have shown in a variety of sports, with many of our students participating in sports they have never played before. Way to go Windang!

School Sport

This term our Year 3-6 students have been attending tennis lessons each Friday with Tom, a local tennis instructor. The students walk to the local tennis courts and complete a guided lesson with expert coaches. The students have shown great improvements and have really enjoyed getting out into our community.

Meanwhile, our K-2 students have been combining and participating in sports rotations at school. They have loved working with students from other classes and experiencing lots of different sports and games. KP & K1 were so lucky to have Alex from Motiv8 Sports visit on May 9! Alex hosted a fabulous “Sports Day” session where students got to engage in a range of fast-paced, competitive and team-building activities.

Athletics Carnival

On Friday Week 6, we hosted our Athletics carnival at John Dwyer Oval.

We would like to extend our thanks to all the parents and families that came to support our wonderful students on the day and that assisted in various capacities. A special mention to the 12 students from Lake Illawarra High School who also helped on the day. It was a beautiful day and we were so proud to see so many students participating in a range of events and displaying wonderful house spirit.

District Athletics is to be held on July 4, Friday Week 3, Term 3. We have 37 students who have qualified to attend and they have all been given their permission notes.

We wish all the students attending the best of luck!

Cross Country

The Mid-South District Cross Country carnival was held on Friday May 4 at BlackButt Forest Reserve. Windang had 55 students attend and they represented our school wonderfully.

Our school was awarded the "Challenge Cup" for being the highest-scoring small school in the Mid-South District. Well done Windang!

A special mention to Beckham Lulia and Fleur Burke who placed 1st and 2nd respectively and earnt themselves a place at the South Coast Regional Carnival which was held in Cambewarra on June 8. They both did extremely well with Beckham placing 19th and Fleur placing 10th. A wonderful achievement to not only represent our school but also our district. Congratulations to them both!

Soccer Gala Day

We entered both a girls and boys side into the NSW PSSA Knockout Competition held at Myimbaar on Monday Week 7. Both teams played 3 games on the day and the boys came away with one draw and one win. The boys faced some tough weather conditions but this did not deter them! A huge congratulations to all the students involved!

Netball Gala Day

On Friday May 19, 10 of our girls attended a Netball Gala ay as a part of the NSW PSSA Knockout Competition.  A mammoth effort was displayed by all the girls on the day with most of the girls playing for the first time on the day. Well done girls!

Touch Football Gala Day

On Friday 9 July, Miss Markham accompanied 13 of our boys to the NSW PSSA Touch Knockout Gala Day at Thomas Dalton Park in Fairy Meadow. The boys had a wonderful day and maintained a positive attitude despite some challenging games. Well done boys!

Motiv8 Sport

This term Alex and the team from Motiv8 have been running after-school sessions for some of our students. They offer a variety of unique sports and activities in a super engaging format. The feedback from students and families has been very positive. We are excited to be working closely with Motiv8 Sport in Term 3, with Alex and his team running a 30-minute session for each class on each Friday as a part of our school sports sessions.

As you can see our students have been very busy this term so we wish to extend a huge thanks to all the families and wider community that have supported all their sporting endeavors! We are super excited for another great semester of sport ahead!
