This week in Reading the students will be continuing their learning about how to make justified predictions.

VOCABULARY

Foreshadowing events: Events that provide a warning or indication of a future event.

Prediction: Thinking about what will happen next in a text.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read the satchel book of your child or another book of your choice. Use the following prompts to discuss your predictions with your child:

• What key words can we use to hint at the mood of the text and make a prediction for events?
• Use the sentence prompts to support prediction
  • I predict that ...
  • I think this because ... (text clue/ prior knowledge)
  • This is a (good/okay) prediction because ...
