From the Classroom - M1 (Jess)

Reading

The students in M1 are really enjoying learning about non fiction texts at the moment. We have focused on how the author presents information as well as identifying features of non fiction texts. We have a tight routine in our Reading sessions, with all groups completing Guided Reading, a Guided Reading Response activity, Reading Eggs on our iPads, Word Work and a Big Book Response across the week.

Writing

We are beginning to work on Information Reports in Writing. Over the last two weeks, the students have worked to identify the difference between facts and opinions and have practised writing short informational pieces on various topics. We have also practised drawing and labelling pictures to match our writing.

Maths

It has been a very busy term in Maths so this week we have taken the opportunity to revise all of the topics we have learnt about, including Number, Chance, Time and Shape. We are also busy this week completing Essential Assessment on the iPads for Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry, and Statistics & Probability.

Gymnastics

We are nearing the end of our Gymnastics Program which has been a huge success among the students. The students have thoroughly enjoyed attending each week to strengthen their gymnastics skills. Here are some of M1’s favourite things to do at Gymnastics:

  • 'Everything because it is really fun and you can swing on stuff.' Maddi F
  • 'The foam pit. I mean everything!' Harry G
  • 'The foam pit because it is very soft.' Aliza M
  • 'The trampoline because there is a bar over it and then you can hang and drop into it.' Charlie B
  • 'Probably the foam pit because there is lots of different ways to get in it.' Elias W
  • 'The foam pit because you can jump in and kind of swim in it.' Phoenix G
  • 'Probably the trampoline because it is bouncy.' Lyla W
