New - Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week – 27 May to 3 June now occurs every year as a significant week in our school calendar. This week across the school, children will be learning about why we have Reconciliation Week.
It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
National Reconciliation Week is bookended by two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey — the successful 1967 referendum (27th May) and the High Court Mabo decision (3rd June, 1992).
This years theme - 'Be a Voice for Generations' encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise. The FIRE Carriers helped create a video to help stamp out racism which was played during Assembly on Monday. The FIRE Carriers and some of our indigenous students also spent time reading dreamtime stories to younger students during the week.
A reminder that the Reconciliation Breakfast is held this Friday at 8 am for all of our Indigenous families and anyone else who is interested in attending. Aunty Ella will be our guest speaker. She will share stories of her time, living on the Flats between Shepparton and Mooroopna as a young girl. Further details below.
Reconciliation Week Activities
During Reconciliation Week, our students will learn about why we are called to be a voice for the next generation.

Acknowledgement of Country
At St Mary’s Primary School Mooroopna we Acknowledge the Traditional people of this land. The Yorta Yorta Nation are the Traditional Custodians of this area and we remember their elders, past, present and future. We remember that the Aboriginal people of Australia will always be the traditional owners of the land on which we gather today. We continue to grow through education and reconciliation to a better future for all Australians.
