XEL Program

XEL success:

As part of the new XEL (Excelling in Engaged Learning) program at ASC, students have the opportunity to develop their own interest project. A group of students, led by Trent James, and with support by Tyrone Morley and Edward Jerrard, identified a need for lunchtime competitions for the large number of students interested in playing basketball during break times.

With the support of XEL staff, Trent researched the competition, advertised, communicated and managed its success.

The particpation and excitement during the competition was amazing, and the boys would like to continue this into next term. A great example of how given the time, passion and support, excellent student led initiatives can come to fruition. Trent and his team have been able to develop a large range of desirable soft skills that are transferrable into our 21st century workplace.

3 Point Contest News.

This term as part of my project in XEL I created a 3 point basketball contest. I created the rules and reached out to Mrs Harvey-Bice for suppors with running the contest and organising prizes for the winners. Mrs Harvey-Bice was supportive of me running this contest at lunchtimes and giving me gift vouchers for first and second place. Prizes were, first place of $100 Rebel Sports vouchers that went to Rhys. He had a score of 25 over the four sessions. Tate was the runner up with 19 scored. He received a $50 voucher from Rebel sports also.

The contest was well received by students from Yr 9, 8 and 7. Two of the days there was rain and the contest had to be cancelled and moved to week 10. I would like to thank Matt, Edward, Keanu and Tyrone for helping me judge, score and be organised each day. By planning and running a contest I have been able to do something that I like doing. Next term I am thinking I might like to do a 3v3 Basketball contest at lunch.
