Lana Hardman

ASC Students,

Are you looking for a casual Job??

I am excited to announce our upcoming Job Fair, which Armidale Secondary College will be hosting on 26 July (Term 3 Week 2). The event will focus on businesses that offer casual employment and school-based traineeships to students while they are still in school. This is a great opportunity for our students to explore various casual job options, and traineeships, ask questions about application processes, learn about employer expectations, hand in their resumes, and take part in on-the-spot interviews.

Getting an appropriate job can be a daunting task, but our Job Fair will make it easier by bringing together businesses in a supportive environment all under one roof. Your child will have the chance to meet potential employers, learn about job requirements, and get a sense of what it takes to succeed in the workplace. It's an opportunity to learn important work-ready skills, gain confidence, and make connections which could lead to future casual employment.

The 'Preparing for Work' Google classroom has been set up to provide students with some useful resources to get ready for our Job Fair. It contains resume and cover letter templates, job interview tips, videos on how to create tax file numbers, and more. We encourage all students to join this classroom and take advantage of the materials available before the event. Classroom code: abq2r6v

We are also holding ASC's Careers Dress-up Day to coincide with the Job Fair. Students can come to school out of uniform for the day; but must be wearing clothes showing their dream career, a career of their choice or dress up as a character from their favourite book or movie. This is a fun way to encourage students to think about what they want to achieve after they finish high school.

We kindly request your support in motivating your child to actively prepare for the Job Fair by researching different careers, preparing questions to ask businesses and reflecting on their own skills and interests. Additionally, please assist them in selecting appropriate attire for the Careers Dress Up Day, as it adds to the overall atmosphere and excitement of the event.

Please take a moment to view our ASC Get a Job clip created by Skye Vaughan (ASC Year 10). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJKaD6hVyHU Many thanks to Skye for her time and effort.

Thank you for your continuous support. If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to your child's active participation in the Job Fair and Careers Dress Up Day.

WED 26th JULY 2023

A special thank you to the University of Sydney for delivering an inspirational and informative presentation to our Year 10 students.

Students gathered information about Subject Selection, prerequisites and assumed knowledge. They were advised to explore links between personal interests and skills, higher education, study options, future career paths and an understanding of study options at the University of Sydney.

University of Sydney Narrabri of plant breeding institute also visited ASC to talk with students about the future of crops - those that can withstand weather extremes and produce enough food to feed 10 billion people by 2050! The students got to see themselves through thermal imaging and design the ‘super plant’ of the future.

We thank USYD for taking the time to work with us!

Year 10, you were EXCEPTIONAL and I was incredibly proud of you all.
