Specialist Program

From the art room....

I know as a mum myself it is sometimes hard to find out what our children actually do in school. So I thought I'd let you know what we're working on in art, and provide some questions you might like to ask your children to discover what they are learning and how they are finding it...

Preps - beginning to use clay to make a name plaque

  • how did the clay feel?
  • what did the clay smell like?
  • do you know where clay comes from?
  • was it easy or difficult to roll flat?
  • what equipment did you have to use to roll the clay flat?
  • do you like working with clay? Why?

Grade 1 & 2 - making clay toadstools, by making a pinch pot

  • was it easy or difficult to model the clay into a sphere?
  • how did the clay feel?
  • how did you make the top part of the toadstool? What did you have to do?
  • do you like working with clay? Why?

Grade 3 & 4 - sewing felt toadstools, using the running stitch

  • do you like sewing with felt? Why?
  • what do you find easy or difficult about the sewing process?
  • what do you think of your toadstool so far? What is next in the process for you?

A BIG thank you to our mothers Karina, Sarah and Emmaline for coming in to help the students - you are very much appreciated by all!

Grade 5 & 6 - sewing wheat bag (heat pack) covers, using running stitch

  • what did you choose to design on your cover?
  • do you like the process of sewing?
  • what do you find tricky about sewing? What do you find easy to do? Why?
  • what do you think of your wheat bag cover so far?

A BIG thank you to Sarah for helping to sew the wheat bags for the students' covers. You are greatly appreciated!

Enjoy your weekend!
