PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Hi everyone,

While Lachie is exploring Darwin with other principals from our network, the staff and I are keeping the ship afloat and already halfway through another productive week at St Agnes’!

This week, we’ve been conducting some mid-year assessments to track our students’ learning against standardised benchmarks. While a short Term 2 means this is happening earlier than usual, we’re all excited to see the impact of our newly implemented teaching and learning initiatives. On a personal note, I’d like to thank all the staff for committing themselves so readily and wholly to these approaches - we’re all learning so much together and it will, ultimately, be for the benefit of each student.

There are a few notices to be across this week…

St Agnes’ Official Grand Opening - Friday, 16 June

Now that we’re settled in, we’re eager to ‘cut the ribbon’ on our new learning spaces! You will have all received an invitation to our Grand Opening on Friday, 16 June from 3.30pm. The celebrations will start with a paraliturgy and blessing by Bishop Tony Ireland in the Church and will continue with light refreshments, a walk-through and some entertainment from the Choir (which has grown in impressive numbers of late!). School Captains and the Choir are expected to attend the paraliturgy; it would also be terrific for all students to be present from the start.

Please RSVP to nfield@sahighett.catholic.edu.au by Tuesday, 6 June. We look forward to showing off our new learning spaces and to celebrating those that made the project possible.

Cybersafety Evening - Wednesday, 14 June at 6.30pm - parents and carers only

We have made the decision to change tack and make the cybersafety evening for parents and carers only. Carley and Marty’s 90-minute seminar, ‘Raising Kids in a Digital World’ includes content appropriate for parents and carers, and we will no longer be running a student-friendly session alongside the main event. While we understand this change will provide families with some logistical considerations, we strongly recommend at least one adult from each family attends. Thank you for making the necessary plans to attend what we know will be a worthwhile seminar.

St Agnes’ Lego Masters Competition - Library open on Tuesday and Wednesday before school in Week 6

We have some excited students who have been busy constructing Lego creations over the last three weeks during Library Club with Miss Miller and the Library Captains. To celebrate their efforts, Lynn has generously offered to open the Library before school from 8.30am until 8.45am on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (Week 6). Chat to your child about if they have a piece they’d like to show you!

Beachside Cross Country - Tuesday, 30 May

Ava, Callan and Eleanor from Year 5 will represent St Agnes’ at Beachside Cross Country on Tuesday, 30 May. Good luck, team! It’s fantastic that three of our students have made it to this level. Thanks, Mr Kost, for helping them prepare.

Open Day - Wednesday, 31 May

Our next Open Day is on Wednesday, 31 May. If you know anyone considering our school or who has recently moved to the area, please spread the word.

St Agnes’ Biggest Morning Tea - Thursday, 1 June between 10.30am and 11.00am

We look forward to welcoming you all to have recess with us! Parents, carers, siblings, grandparents and friends are invited to bring their own morning tea and enjoy it with us in the Hall. There are a range of ways you can make donations, with all proceeds going to Cancer Council. More details can be found in Issue 7 in Mrs Josie Miller’s Wellbeing update.
