On Wednesday 31st May, Pearl (Year 5) competed at the Maribyrnong Division Cross Country Championships. Pearl ran in the Under 11’s, 3km event and ended up placing fourth.
This was a fantastic opportunity for Pearl to compete against other students from other schools.
On behalf of the St. John’s community, we would like to congratulate Pearl for her sensational efforts. We are extremely proud and we wish Pearl all the best as she has now qualified into regionals on Wednesday 19th June.
Resources from Inform & Empower’s Raising Kids in a Digital World information session are still available to all St John’s families. The webinar replay will be available for another week so be sure to check it out if you haven’t already. The password is may2023. The Parent Toolkit/Resources are available for the entire year.
Marty is a leading cyber safety educator and Carley is a psychologist (and mother of 3 school-aged children) so they are an interesting and helpful combination! Inform & Empower is endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner as a Trusted eSafety Provider.
The St John’s Online Safety Hub is another fantastic resource that has just been made available to us. It is an extensive bank of resources about a variety of apps, games, websites and devices.
Inform & Empower is also hosting a screening of ‘Embrace Kids’ at the Sun Theatre in the next school holidays. Embrace Kids is an uplifting film by 2023 Australian of the Year, Taryn Brumfitt. It brings together a vibrant collection of stories from young people and famous friends alike, who share their experiences about body image, bullying, gender identity, advocacy, representation and more.
This film aims to improve the body image of young people across Australia and the world. Aimed at an audience of 9-14 year olds, but equally engaging for adolescents, teachers, and parents, this film inspires, educates, and advocates for a world where we are not held back by the thoughts we have about the way we look. Instead, young people are encouraged to figure out what makes them unique and special, and use that to spark change.

This week at the farm the children harvested silverbeet and a little bit of rainbow chard that was used to make scrambled eggs. For the children that had allergies or are vegetarian, an alternative of silverbeet and apple juice was offered.
I have included both recipes for you to try at home, we hope that you find these recipes as delicious as the children found them.
Ingredients
1 Bunch of silverbeet or rainbow chard
Eggs
Splash of milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Unsalted butter
Method
We hope you will enjoy this as a breakfast treat
(This recipe was used as an alternative for the children that had allergies / vegetarian)
Ingredients
1 chopped lebanese cucumber
1 chopped green apple
1 silverbeet leaf (stalk removed) chopped
Mint leaves
Method
Place all of the ingredients into a juicer or nutri bullet and juice or blend until the mixture is smooth. For a colder drink cool the ingredients before juicing or add ice cubes before blending.
