Hamburger with the Lot

Have you ever tried to eat a hamburger with the lot? You know the one I am talking about, two meat patties, double cheese, pickles, tomato, beetroot, bacon, egg, lettuce and all the different sauces on a toasted or flame grilled bun. Each ingredient is carefully layered so that it looks appetising, and you can eat it. But the reward of taking that first bite takes effort.

You need to think about how you use both of your hands to hold the burger, to ensure you get a bite of everything.

You probably need to lean over your plate or paper to ensure any sauces that drip off the bun do not land on your clothes.

You will need to have a napkin close by to wipe your mouth and hands.

You will need to adjust the burger as you go, so that that the bun does not slide off.

If you dare to put the burger down to take a drink or grab some fries, then you will need to start over.

Eating a burger, whether it is one from McDonalds, Randy’s in Port Fairy or one you make at home, it takes effort.

Our teaching and learning in Term 4 will take effort, every bit of our collective effort.

Teachers will be working hard to help students navigate more continuous remote learning, face to face learning and a mix of both - what we call a hybrid model.

Parents will need to help students understand what is required each day – sometimes remote, sometimes face to face.

Students will need to work hard to show up to class – online or on campus with the same diligent approach to their learning each time.

Effort will be rewarded. Students will be required to focus on self-management, that is how they behave in the classroom. There will be the temptation of other students and activity in the classroom when we are back learning on site, so the challenge will be to focus. Students also need to be organised. Mentors will expect the student record book to be used and teachers will want students to be working independently in class.

The first three weeks of Term Four will be a little messy as we move back and forth from remote learning to face to face. It will be a lot to navigate, but I am confident that staff, parents, and students will rise to the challenge.

Remember the hamburger with the lot – it smells so good, and you want to eat it, it just takes some effort. Learning with the lot will take effort too. But it will be worth it.

Thank you for the students and parents who attended the Year 10-12 Interviews online this week. Interviews for Year 7-9 take place on Tuesday 12 October between 4-6.30 pm. Please contact the school if you require more information.
