Breaksea House News

As we come to the end of Term Three, there have been celebrations and a few happy tears, as we begin farewelling the Year Twelve students. Those students on a general pathway finish in boarding at the end of this term and then return for just the Valedictory events in Term Four. The Year Twelve ATAR students begin their examinations this Thursday and continue examinations throughout the holidays. Consequently, last Thursday we celebrated the Year Twelve Breaksea students. It was a night designed, planned and orchestrated by the Year Ten and Eleven students, with significant thanks going to Kate Squibb, Madison Smart and Zaydee Kiagoes who wrote numerous run sheets, food lists, met with students, staff and organised decorations and worked very hard all evening. The theme of the night was a Red Carpet Awards Ceremony. We knew that the students had been disappointed not to get their special Country Week Dinner and students dresses they had never had the opportunity to wear. So, it was a great opportunity to dress up, sparkle and have some fun.

The Year Ten students designed and created the stunning invitations and then helped turn Breaksea House into a black and gold sparkling wonderland. The Year Twelve girls had requested staff to attend and everyone enjoyed an Italian feast, followed by a desert table with a chocolate fountain and amazing cake made by the marvellous Mrs Sally Mellows. Every Year Eleven and Ten student contributed in various ways to ensure the night was wonderful for the Year Twelve students.

There were fun awards presented with gold trophies and then the highlight of the evening was each student receiving a “Memory Box”. This box held little gifts, photos, notes and memories from each of the students and staff. There was much laughter and a few tears as the younger students gave little speeches and the Year Twelve students opened up the gifts. Then the dance floor opened, and the party continued. It was a wonderful night celebrating and honouring the Year Twelve students of Breaksea.

The last weekend also contained many grand finals and events where students could celebrate their fellow boarders. All students were encouraged to go along to at least one grand final and cheer on their peers. Whilst not everyone came away with a win, it was a great celebration of the effort and commitment of so many throughout the season. There were many Breaksea boarders who received awards and acknowledgements from associations or the school and these will all be acknowledged in the Anchor.

A big happy birthday to Jasmine Bradshaw who will be celebrating her special day on the school holidays.

May you all enjoy rest and rejuvenation over the holidays, except for Year Twelve ATAR who will be studying and doing examinations with me in Breaksea.
