Specialists Updates and Celebrations

Messages from our Specialist team (P.E., STEAM, Music and Mandarin)...

STEAM

The focus of STEAM so far this term has been "Living things". Last week the Preps learned about the main parts of a plant and a tree. They were shown time-lapse videos showing that plants actually move (albeit very slowly!). They completed an activity where they had to match the parts of a tree that they had learned about to a diagram of a tree. Then they had a go at drawing a plant or tree of their choice.

Mandarin

The Grade 1 and 2 students have been learning about parts of the robot’s body in Mandarin remote sessions. We have learnt how to say head, body, legs and robot in Mandarin. We have also learnt how to write these words in Pinyin as well as Chinese Characters.

Music

We have started a very exciting project in the grade 3/4 remote learning music program. Over the next few weeks students will be composing music for an imaginary movie scene. Students were given movie settings to pick from such as outer space, under water and the jungle. They then had to plan a scene for that setting with 3 separate parts. With careful consideration students have started to compose music on software that shows their understanding of the mood and feel of the setting and scene.

P.E.

Grade 5/6 students are in the second week of learning about the importance of stretching before and after exercising and the different types of stretching as we continue to keep active in our PE sessions. Last week students completed a form, answering questions about different movements and exercises that can help us stay active and healthy, especially during the lockdown. Keep it up everyone, not long to go until we are back at school!

Athletics Day Term 4 - Friday, November 12th (Week 6) - CANCELLED.

Unfortunately due to restrictions, we are unable to continue with our Athletics Day this year. We hope to conduct a smaller version of Athletics Day at school later in the term.

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to help assist on the day. Fingers crossed it can happen next year!
