Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Grade Prep

MasterPreps!

This week, our prep students took part in an online cooking workshop. With the support of parents and carers, the students combined ingredients to make their very own focaccia. Other students chose to watch on and even take notes so that they could make the focaccia at a later stage. Look at some of the yummy results!

Grade 1

In Grade 1 this week, we had a virtual incursion from the Drama toolbox. The Grade 1 students did a wonderful job of acting as different Australian animals by using their facial expressions and body gestures. The students listened, danced, and sung along to the Dreamtime story Tiddalick the frog. It was so much fun!

Grade 2

In Grade 2 this week, we had a virtual visit from Mad About Science. We watched the scientists make a teabag fly, a bin puff smoke and Miss Kat's hair fly! We learnt about air and electricity and did our own experiment with a ziplock bag, bicarb soda and vinegar.

Grade 5/6

Our students were due to go on Camp Rumbug this week. Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions, camp was cancelled. This didn't stop our classes from having fun during our alternative - Camp Homebug - though! Students made their own tents, completed camp-themed directed drawings and more. Fingers crossed camp goes ahead in 2022!

This week in Grade 5 and 6, the students have been learning about news report writing. Last term, many students gave feedback in a student survey that they like writing tasks which have a purpose. They said that they feel most motivated when they know that other people will read their work.

Their teachers have taken this on board, and now Grade 5 and 6 are writing news reports about current topics based on their own interests. When they are finished (and restrictions have eased), the Grade 5 and 6 teachers will distribute these news reports to local cafes for our community to enjoy! Next time you stop off at your local cafe for a coffee, why not have a look to see if our Grade 5 and 6 news reports are in there?

Last term, Grade 5 and 6 took part in an online poetry workshop. Some of our lovely students submitted their work, and have since been published on the Red Room Poetry website!

Well done to Sai, Archie, Jules, Julie and Arushi. Their entries have helped to plant a native tree in the POEM FOREST at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. These poems are now also in the running for POEM FOREST prizes alongside over 5,000 youth voices from around Australia!

  • Shortlisters will be notified via email October 26
  • Winners will be  announced mid-November!
