Stage 6 PDHPE

Stage 6 PDHPE have been actively applying their knowledge in units of work this semester.

Year 11 completed a First Aid unit of work and are currently working on the Sports Medicine option for their HSC studies. During the First Aid unit students, Lucy and Renae successfully applied bandages, slings and splints as part of management of injuries.

Our Yr 12 PDHPE students are busy revising content prior to their exam commencing on the 9th November. Prior to the lockdown, students (Cooper, Harrison, Holly, Carter and Claire) were applying their knowledge of skills and performance by learning to juggle. This involves the 3 stages of skill acquisition, cognitive, associative, and the autonomous stage.

Good luck to all our Yr 12 students.

Stage 1 CAPA

This term in CAPA, Stage One is using a mix of the creative arts mediums to explore three

themes. The first theme of friendships has been explored through dance and visual arts. This week we looked at the artist Wassily Kandinsky, who compared painting to making music. We discussed how he used abstract shapes in his art and used this idea to represent friendship. We then transferred work to the Kandinsky Music Lab which transformed the students’ art into music. It was an experience the students showed great engagement in, enjoying experimenting with the sounds that are created through a range of shapes and designs.

Enjoying our Sensory Learning Area - Stage 1

Stage 1 students have been lucky enough to enjoy the new Fine Motor Skills equipment and new toys for the sensory learning area.

We have been using the wooden blocks to build towers and forts for our army people.

We have had a go at using our new catching and throwing kit that has flying foxes, grip balls, scoop balls and fling-a-majigs. We are practicing our balancing skills on the new balancing equipment. We can’t wait to use the scooter boards to play basketball in sport.

Gardening Club

GCS Gardening Club has started up in the Primary once more with the help of Rebecca Wood, UNE Social Worker in training. We have a positive and enthusiastic group of students from K-6 who have been working really hard to get the gardens in the quad filled up with soil ready to plant some winter vegetables. The beautiful soil from Tibbs’ is proving to be an excellent foundation for our gardens and we have added some compost and mulch ready to grow cauliflowers, cabbage, silverbeet, broccoli and lettuce to begin with. Many hands make light work!

Pig Husbandry at Guyra Central School

Our beautiful sow "Polly" with her five piglets were born last week. The new mobile pig shed, kindly donated by the Guyra NSW Farmers Federation Group is currently housing our other sow "Princess" and "Steve" a boar on loan from Armidale Secondary College. We are very grateful for the ongoing, generous support offered to the school by our community and the generous donation of the mobile pig shed is a wonderful addition to our pig program.
