5/6 B

Resilient

Adaptable

 Hard Working

Welcome back to all our 5/6 families, we're certainly looking forward to an eventful term 4. We're hoping it's one full of hope and optimism. While it may look a little different to previous year's, we have some exciting challenges and changes ahead of us. As we mentioned in our beautiful prayer on Monday...

This is an important time for thinking about change because there are so many changes happening in the world, in Australia, in our community and even for you. Next year our Year 6s will be making a change to a whole new school which is very exciting but, possibly for some, a challenging prospect.

In 2022 every child in our school will be moving into a new year level. Even though that may seem like a while away, now is the time for thinking about what changes you would like and perhaps need to make. Do you need to change your behaviour? Your attitude to work and learning? The way you treat or speak to other people?

Change

Our term 4 Inquiry topic is all about 'change'. As mentioned in the prayer, change encompasses a lot of what we do at this time of the year. It's a time to prepare for change and reflect on our learning and behaviours. From an Inquiry point of view, we're going to look at Civics and Citizenship, different levels of government, rules and laws and how we can bring about change in our school, local community, country and world. When we return onsite in a few weeks, we'll undertake some different role plays to bring to life different local, state and federal government decision making processes.

Maths

To begin Term 4 we're going to be looking at Geometry, in particular 3D objects. We'll make models of 3D objects, describe their properties and characteristics, construct simple prisms and pyramids,  connect three-dimensional objects with their nets and draw different views of prisms and solids. The children have brought home some resources in this week's take home packs to assist them while at home. Please make sure these items are returned once we return to onsite learning.

Literacy

To link with our Inquiry work, we are going to begin with a focus on persuasive writing. Using the seven steps to writing success we will work with the children on planning before writing; remembering that good writing comes from good ideas, beginning with a sizzling start and then forming arguments that have impact. To do this we'll use a variety of exemplars that demonstrate effective persuasive writing techniques and devices.

Activity Week

To kick start term 4 we had three days of activities planned for our 12:00pm Google Meet. On Tuesday we had an online games session within our own classes, on Wednesday we took part in a tribal rhythm fit  session with Lisa Westlake and then on Thursday we had an incursion with our friends from Twisted Science. It was such a great way to reconnect with each other and have some fun after the holidays.
