A global connection

Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.

Recently, a small group of students were invited to represent BSC as part of theMicrosoft Global Learning Connnection event.

Just two Victorian schools were extended this privelege of participating in this truly global event.  Hundreds of thousands of students, teachers and guest speakers in over 110 countries connected - and in 48 hours they traveled around the world via Teams, Skype and Flipgrid. Together they celebrated the power of global learning, shared cultures and environments near and far, as well as fostered empathy and compassion for one another and our planet.  This amazing opportunity demonstrated to students how well connected we all are now - in a digital sense!

Our students had a rare and coveted opportunity to speak for 30 minutes with the global Vice President of Microsoft Education, Anthony Salcito

Anthony was able to describe his role within Microsoft, as well as provide students with unique insight into future plans to extend and enhance student learning with further development of  the various Microsoft platforms.

The students posed questions to Anthony ranging across all topics  - from technical Minecraft queries to questions about programming and careers paths. Students also had the chance to share their experience of the projects and competitions that they have been involved with, while Anthony reciprocated by sharing information about upcoming technology releases and the Microsoft Aspire careers-based program.

The Microsoft AspireProgram is designed to attract top-performing graduates across a broad range of roles.  Successful candidates gain valuable experience by working on real projects that have real impact. Typical roles  that are available to candidates within Microsoft include Solution Sales Professional, Customer Success Manager, Technical Account Manager, Account Delivery Executive, Operations Program Manager and Technical Sales roles.

It was exciting to see what plans Microsoft had for future ideas and how they were going to modify certain educational tools, such as online tests, for more efficient ways of learning. It was also inspiring to see how Anthony Salcito was able to reach such a high and influential position.
