The Scarlett Stiletto Awards

Women’s Crime and Mystery Short Story Competition

Congratulations to Year 9 student, Natasha Nette,  who recently earned the Affirm Press Award for Best Young Writer, in the Sisters in Crime Scarlet Stiletto Awards.

Natasha's submission, Signs of Life, a story told through the ghostly eyes of a young mother, was judged in the under-19yo category. Natasha says that she has more ideas for stories than she has time to write them down - so we look forward to reading more of her works in the future.

The coveted Stiletto Awards (now in their 27th year)  are conducted by Sisters in Crime Australia.  This national award recognises  short stories that have been written by Australian women and that feature a strong female protagonist.

These awards offer young writers the opportunity to share their talents and to compete alongside their peers.  Sisters in Crime Australia champions female writers of all ages, backgrounds and experience, and many past award winners have gone on to become well known and celebrated authors.

The story that I submitted to the awards was originally my creative writing assignment for my English class, slightly edited and named Signs of Life.

It was such a cool experience, I feel truly lucky to have been a part of it. It is definitely something I recommend to other young writers out there!

Sisters in Crime Australia draws on the support of a variety of sponsors,  and one of them - Affirm Press- is  especially passionate about supporting new and emerging writers,  such as Natasha.  Affirm Press were proud to sponsor the award for Best Young Writer (under 19 years of age) at this year's 27th Scarlet Stiletto Awards.
