The graduating class of 2020 have navigated their final year at Brunswick Secondary College with optimism and determination.

The college was keen to conduct the much anticipated Graduation ceremony  so that it honoured the students' resilience as well as their extraordinary sense of community. While Covid19 lockdowns and restrictions have impacted  class time, face to face learning and cancelled their Formal, out Year 12 students chose to meet the challenges head on.  With the help of  their teachers, they forged on, staying connected to friends and staff, and remaining focused on their goals.

Extensive discussions with 2020 School Captains, An Dang and Archie Ballinger, ensured that student voice dictated how  the Year 12  students would together (and apart) celebrate the end of their final year at secondary school.

On their final day, celebrations were organised and executed in such a way as to ensure compliance with Covid19 restrictions. Students were treated to a pancake snack, complete with maple syrup, ice cream and condiments and the opportunity to sign individual students' and teachers' posters and/or uniforms.

The main event of the day  was the opportunity  to view their Graduation Video which included a prerecording of them each receiving their graduation certificates.  To the students' delight, this film was interwoven with video 'blasts from the past' from as far back as Year 7 2015,  along with pre-recorded student and teacher comments, memories and messages. Capping it off, students' individual images morphing from Year 7 to Year 12 photos reminded us of how each of them has grown and evolved to become the young adult they are now ready to move on to the next chapter in their life.

This film was made available to the families of the students on the evening of the same day, so that they could also 'attend' graduation at the same time and share the moment with the wider community - albeit from the comfort of their own home.  At 7.00pm,  families all tuned in to watch the video - all apart, but all together!

We were so pleased to receive positive feedback from families regarding our arrangements for 2020 Graduation and we thank those who shared photos of their family celebrations with us.
