Principals Message

Dear Parents and Carers,
The year continues to throw challenges at us! With every challenge comes the comfort that we live in a wonderful community. Last Wednesday afternoon was a huge shock to us. We had just started a staff meeting when we were alerted to smoke coming from the Kinder building. Everyone jumped into action and a quick phone call to both Pete Jensen and Michael Crowhurst enabled them to get here swiftly to shift gas bottles and turn off the power.
The support we have had from families, the P&F, St Mary’s College, South School and Carinya has truly made us feel so lucky to be in this community. Although everything was destroyed, no one was hurt. As Eugenie Goddard in Year 3 said, “You can replace buildings Mrs Honner, but you can't replace people.”
The theme for Naidoc Week this year is, “Always Was, Always Will Be”. This theme leads us to remember that the First Nations Peoples have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.
We started our week with an Assembly led by students from Yrs 4, 5 and 6. The students shared information about the symbols of fabric, water, earth, clapping sticks, the coolamon and the candle. Yr 4 led us in prayer. Stephanie Cameron opened our assembly with a Welcome to Country.
All the students will be involved in art and language lessons this week. We hope you enjoy all the photos from these lessons.
We are halfway through the last term of the year and we are very keen for the next five weeks to be “normal”!
Kind regards,
Jen
