Awards Assembly

On Monday morning, Years 10 and 11 students and teachers gathered for our Senior Secondary awards assembly for 2020. As you may be aware, our Bayside purposes encourage students to, "strive for excellence in their lives", and "to discover and develop their own God-given abilities and to recognise and respect those of others". The awards acknowledged academic excellence and academic endeavour across the subject areas. We also celebrated Christian character and aspects of student service within the Senior Secondary School. Captain Michael Oborn also presented the ADF Long Tan and Future Innovator awards to two of our Year 10 students.

For all Years 10 and 11 students this was also their final day of the Head Start program. Students shared roast and pizza lunches with their teachers before final classes for the day, packing their bags for the final assembly and prayers.

We wish you all the best for a restful break and a blessed Christmas with your family and friends as we celebrate the birth of Jesus our Lord and Redeemer.

Year 12 Biology 2021

The students studying Biology in 2021 have enjoyed participating in the Head Start program for the last two weeks. They have used microscopes to investigate the six kingdoms of living things, and also looked at the organisms found in pond water. Students have revised concepts from this year including cell organelles, and studied basic biochemistry in preparation for next year. Some even brought in a cake, representing a cell to celebrate the final lesson of Biology for 2020.

VCAL Update

2020 has been an amazing year in many ways: tough, painful, heart-breaking, needing grit. It has also yielded resilience that would take many years to develop due to the constant difficulties we faced in our two lock downs. It has been a pleasure to work with the students and staff through this time.

In the last two weeks of Head Start, the VCAL students have shown their stripes of awesomeness! They ran the successful Christmas hamper drive thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the College community. We were able to pack 83 hampers (up from 20 last year) to bless those who need our love and support at this time. They have constructed sustainable products to work in the school such as 'chicken arks' and vertical gardens. They have led Christmas craft with the Years 3/4 students, refining their skills in leadership and communication with every group that went through. I have been very proud of how the students have stepped into the next year level and the challenges with enthusiasm.

God bless in 2021,

VCAL Head Start Program

I had the privilege of being able to help out with a group of Senior VCAL students on a project coordinated by Mr Ken Berry. They were designing and building a vertical free standing

garden wall, and where possible using recycled materials.

They are an amazing team who work so well together. The proof is in their finished product and here it is… Well done guys.

Victoria is Developing a New Youth Strategy

Frankston-Mornington Peninsula Local Learning and Employment Network is supporting the Victorian Government to ensure young people are at the heart of Victoria’s new Youth Strategy. This is an important opportunity for students to have their say on their future and improve how government works with and for young people.

Get Involved as a Young Person

From October to December 2020, you can have your say on what matters to you, in online youth and community forums that will be youth-led. Some forums will be specific to local areas and others will be focused on specific groups of young people. You can choose to attend the forum that is most relevant to you.

School Leavers Support Service

Students who have just completed Year 12 - along with their parents - may want to explore this new service provided by the Australian government. The School Leavers Support Service includes phone and SMS helplines, an information kit, useful articles as well as helpful links to other services.

Ms Dawson will remain contactable by email during December, including via Zoom appointments on results/ATAR Day (30 December). Year 12 VCE students have been emailed with a link that can be used to book Change of Preference appointments in advance. The VTAC website contains useful information about the Change of Preference process, and all major universities are providing support services for applicants at the end of the year.
