House & sport comps

We hope you enjoyed the break away from your screens and have come back to Term 4 with some energy ready to launch into a mix of remote and onsite learning.

Unfortunately, Interschool Sport will not be able to run at this time. The Department of Education and Training (DET) is continuing to monitor and act on the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer and the DHHS in relation to coronavirus (COVID-19).

As stated on the School Sport Victoria (SSV) website “resumption of any interschool sport is dependent on advice from the Department of Health and Human Services that it is considered safe to do so. Currently, for schools in regional Victoria, outdoor interschool sport can resume in line with community sport. No interschool sport is permitted for schools in metropolitan Melbourne.”

We know and recognise that playing sport can provide so many benefits to students. Remaining physically active is important to student's health and wellbeing – as well as supporting their learning. School sport is also integral to supporting the achievement of the Education State targets:  in particular happy, healthy and resilient kids and pride and confidence in our schools. SSV is continuing to offer many virtual events to participate in such as the Virtual Track and Field. This is aimed at encouraging students to undertake a select number of disciplines including: sprints, run or walk, jumps, throw and a combined event – check out details here: SSV Virtual Track and Field.

On a positive note, congratulations to our very own Senior Kenny Captain, Daisy Walker. Daisy has been drafted in the AFLW Carlton team for 2021. What an incredible achievement Daisy and we are very proud of what lies ahead for you!

Olympic Change Maker award 2020

Two of our senior students – Daisy Walker and Olivia McGillivary - are recipients of the new Olympic Change Maker award (formerly the Pierre De Coubertin award).

This award is given to students in Years 10 to 12 who have displayed Olympic qualities and leadership with the school sports program or within a community. The awards were received in the mail and unfortunately we are unable to formerly acknowledge their achievements at an assembly.

Congratulations to both of these students for your nomination and recognition of your efforts at MGSC.
